Edinburgh Stammering Self-Help Group

(Registered Charity - no SC 032013)

Do you stammer and want to do something about it?

Word-Out is a group of people who stammer with or without prior therapy experience. We meet on alternate Monday evenings in Edinburgh.

Our overall goal is to maintain a constructive attitude towards dealing with our stammering through working together and supporting each other. In particular we aim to:

  • increase our understanding of stammering;
  • reduce avoidance of, and negative reactions to, stammering;
  • reduce tension and struggle in speech.

Word-Out is an ideal place to practice techniques such as voluntary stammering and block modification and also explore stammering from a more holistic perspective.

The group has regular support from a specialist speech therapist, Jan Anderson who joins us at alternate meetings, and we aim to draw on the expertise of other people as well.

We welcome new members and ideas. In addition to supporting each other our activities include:

We gratefully acknowledge the British Stammering Association as a source of information and inspiration.

And thanks to UK2 for kindly hosting our website.
